Matias Corea of Myth Motor: Unveiling the BMW Motorrad ‘Storied’ Series

Matias Corea is a man driven by design. Whether it’s brands, physical spaces, or the motorcycles he builds as Myth Motor, he has a keen eye for spotting areas that can be improved upon. Design is not just a job for Corea, it is his way of life. It shapes how he views the world and influences his every decision.

In 2005, Corea co-founded the popular art and design portfolio website, Behance. The platform was later acquired by Adobe in 2012. After working for the company for three more years, Corea decided it was time to move on to his next challenge.

However, before he could fully embark on his next venture, tragedy struck. Corea’s sister passed away unexpectedly, leaving him in a difficult state of grief and introspection. It was during this time that he put his plans to ride motorcycles with a friend on hold.

But it was precisely this adventure that would reignite Corea’s passion for life. He saw the trip as an opportunity to seize the moment and make the most out of his time. It combined everything he loved – adventure, photography, motorcycles, and travel.

Corea had been riding motorcycles since he was a teenager, but his love for classic BMW boxers developed later on. A chance encounter with a vintage BMW motorcycle owned by his friend Joel’s father sparked his fascination with these bikes. They embarked on a trip together, reminiscent of the famous Motorcycle Diaries journey.

It was during this journey that Corea discovered Moto Borgotaro, a specialist vintage European motorcycle workshop owned by Peter Boggia. Boggia’s knowledge impressed Corea, and he admired his willingness to share it. However, Corea was taken aback when he received the bill for the work done on his bike, which was higher than expected.

In an awkward moment, Corea offered Boggia an unsolicited design review of his brand. The next day, Boggia called Corea with a trade proposition – motorcycle services for design. Corea, in turn, offered to exchange design services for instructions on how to repair his own bike.

This exchange sparked Corea’s journey towards servicing and restoring BMW boxers himself. Eventually, it led to the creation of Myth Motor, a New York-based custom motorcycle workshop specializing in adventure-born BMW boxers.

Currently, Corea is preparing for his next big adventure, a trip from Barcelona, Spain, to Cape Town, South Africa, with his friend Joel. Using his experience and insights gained from his previous journeys, Corea is refining his idea of the perfect overland motorcycle.

For Corea, motorcycle design is a combination of performance, ergonomics, convenience, and style. He believes in thinking through every detail and ensuring that the bikes are not only visually stunning but also practical for the journey ahead.

As for what the future holds for Corea, he is uncertain. He prefers to take things one step at a time, focusing on the present moment rather than worrying too much about the future. Corea believes that each journey is made one mile at a time, and that is all that matters.

In conclusion, Matias Corea’s passion for design permeates every aspect of his life, from his work at Behance to his motorcycle adventures with Myth Motor. He is a true believer in the power of design to improve people’s lives and is constantly seeking new ways to make a difference.
